Join us for a debate competition style event where our speakers will be given 30 minutes to prepare for a motion they haven't seen before!

Our Debate Socials are a community favourite event. A chance for everyone in our community to get involved with fun debates without the added pressure of a full audience.

The night will start with round table, group debates where the room will be given a debate to work through and each table must come to a unanimous agreement on where they stand.

Topics we love:

• What is the ideal first date?
• What annoying thing would you ban forever (Room 101 style)
• If you could legalise any one thing, what would it be?

Our round table topics always build up to our big showcase debate of the evening where up to 6 of our attendees will get a chance to take on a fun debate fitting in the theme of the night so far.

After announcing our motion for the first time our speakers will be given 30 minutes WITH NO INTERNET to prep their arguments for you the audience. They will fight hard for your vote and do their best to answer your questions in the audience Q&A round.

While our speakers prep we will be running our quickfire debates. A series of short 2 minute debates where anyone and everyone can volunteer to show off their skills (or just give it a go if it's your first time with us) arguing for a range of topics like:

Cats vs Dogs

Computer games in the olympics

Vegatables are tastier than fruit

Everyone should go to sleep when the sun sets to save energy

etc.

Once our teams have had 30 minutes to prep our main event will begin with a simplified debate format and full audience Q&A so you can get as involved as you like

After Debate Social

After all of our debates we have a post debate hang-out. This is a chance for our community to get to know new people, explore new ideas and generally have more fun as a club! Come along and join us for a post-debate social!
